National Outlook

UPDATED: 7:55 am EDT May 16, 2008

RADAR: Interactive Radar

The finish of the week will bring additional chances for showers and thunderstorms along areas of the Gulf Coast as well as the Northeast. Be prepared to dodge a few scattered showers during the day from Washington D.C. to Boston. While most of this activity should be off the coast by sunrise on Saturday, another impulse will be dropping into the region from the Great Lakes that could lead to a few more passing showers. Most of the action in the region on Saturday should arrive by the evening and overnight hours.

The same disturbance that will be in the Northeast on Saturday will first bring the chance for a few isolated showers along much of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula later Friday. Meanwhile, some of the very active spots late Thursday will fire up again Friday. From Brownsville, TX to New Orleans, strong winds and localized downpours will be likely. By Friday afternoon, much of the Coastal Carolinas will also see the opportunity for some strong storms with the chance for some storms to reach severe levels. Sunshine in the region for the start of the day will only help to drive the strong thunderstorm threat.

REGIONS: EAST | SOUTH | MIDWEST | WEST

Out West, the record-breaking heat will continue again with some of the warmest numbers extending from Northern California through Western Oregon. Temperatures in the region should begin a cooling trend into the weekend.
